A Weight Loss And Exercise Plan That Feels Good

During my summers as a child I rarely spent a day when I wasn't at the pool. Going to the pool was such a great way to have fun, beat the heat and get exercise. Looking back I realize that I can do the same thing to get exercise, succeed at weight loss and still have fun.

It feels so good to glide through the water. Gravity no longer applies and it felt so peaceful to just float.

Exercise that you get in the water is low impact. If you have problems such as arthritis then swimming and pool exercises are a perfect exercise. Moving is almost effortless when you exercise in the water, no pain in your joints like exercise done outside the pool. Even though it feels effortless it also feels that you have had a good work out.

Unlike jogging, doing water exercises promotes meeting people who enjoy the things you enjoy. It makes it so much easier to stick with an exercise plan when you are with a group of people who share your interests.

Water activities improve cardiovascular functioning. Aerobic activity improves heart health by lowering blood pressure, losing weight and increasing your metabolism. The same benefits you get from running or floor exercises can be found with water exercise, but in a low impact, non-jarring way.

Your body can also get the same benefits that come with strength training while you're exercising in water. Dumbbells made of plastic are specifically designed for aquatic exercises. They're light on land, but work with them in the water, and you'll feel the difference right away. Pushing and pulling these light dumbbells through the water takes the same effort as working out with iron dumbbells on land. The difference is that you're not stressing your joints when you're in the water.

Regardless of doing it in the water or on the land, training for strength brings many benefits. Improved balance, mobility and flexibility all come along with increase in strength. As we all get older, these things become even more important.

You don't always need a planned routine of exercises when you hit the pool. Swimming laps is an exercise that's hard to beat. Your shoulders, arms and back get stronger as well as your core muscles in your abdomen and lower back. As you swim longer and longer sessions you'll find your endurance improves rapidly.

Any form of exercise improves not only the body, but also the mind. With physical activity, the brain releases endorphins, the legal "feel good" substances that help to improve your mood and overall outlook. With the increased oxygen to the brain, your mind is sharper and your thinking is clearer.

Remember how much fun swimming was when you were a child? Remember how well you slept at night after getting such great exercise? Then get back to an exercise that's fun and good for your health at the same time.
