Staying Sick Free When Getting In Shape
Constantly getting sick while trying to get in shape is not fun and totally unnecessary. Unfortunately, a single bout of sickness can set you back for weeks.
So here is how to prevent sickness from slowing down your fitness progress:
1. Don't eliminate food groups: Eliminate carbs and you will not recover properly from exercise. Eliminate fat and you will not recover properly either. When trying to get in shape, it's critical that you have the whole spectrum of food groups in your diet.

2. Don't go too fast: Extremely fast weight loss will stimulate your body to begin burning muscle for fuel, the last thing you want. Not only will this decrease your metabolic rate, but it will also bring down your immune system.
3. Keep your standards of hygiene high: Even if you aren't getting sick per se, your body is in a constant tug of war with invading organisms. By keeping your standards of hygiene ultra high, you will take some of this stress off of your immune system so that it can better focus on repair and recovery.
4. Get a flu shot right when they are available: It takes minimal effort, costs very little and can save you weeks of sickness misery. If you have a simple way to prevent a potential bout of sickness, take it.
5. Eat before exercise: You don't want to have a full course meal, but a moderate sized snack with protein, carbs and some fat will do the trick. Paradoxically, studies have shown that eating before exercise causes more fat loss.
6. Have carbohydrates immediately after exercise: You need to do this for two reasons. First, you want to take advantage of your body's ability to suck up extra carbs during the short post workout window. Second, the carbs will bring down exercise-induced stress hormones that reduce your immunity.
7. Rest aggressively when symptoms begin to sprout: A light bout of sickness can turn into a monster if you keep on stressing your system with heavy bouts of exercise. Stay on the safe side and give your body time to recover from the attack.
Staying healthy during your quest to get in shape is extremely important. After all, it only takes a single bout of sickness to take you out of the game for weeks!
