The Advantages Of E Cigarettes Over Tobacco Cigarettes

What exactly are e cigarettes (electronic cigarettes) and do they offer advantages over regular, tobacco cigarettes? Since they are considered smoke-less, they are allowed many places where smoking is prohibited or restricted. With ever-increasing taxes on tobacco products, e-cigarettes also allow a way to save money. With all of these benefits, they offer one additional advantage: they are generally considered to be safer than tobacco cigarettes.

An e-cigarette is generally composed of three components: a mouthpiece or cartridge, an atomizer, and a battery. The atomizer is the part that does the actual work of vaporizing the liquid solution contained in the cartridge, and the battery provides the power necessary. The liquid solution varies by manufacturer, but generally it contains nicotine, flavoring, and a base (usually propylene glycol). The base is used to provide a satisfying "smoke, " as well as to transport the nicotine and flavorings in a vapor. Automatic e-cigarettes allow the user to simply "puff" on the cigarette, which triggers the atomizer automatically. There are other models that require the user to press a button while smoking.

E-cigarettes offer several benefits over tobacco cigarettes. Since nothing is burned, a lighter or matches are no longer necessary, and since no ash is produced, an ashtray is not necessary either. Even more, a full pack of cigarettes may fit into a single cartridge, which is much more compact than a cigarette pack.

Due to the fact that e-cigarettes produce only a vapor or mist, they can be used in many places where smoking is prohibited. The "smoke" they produce is generally odorless, and won't stain clothing or walls and ceilings. They offer an excellent compromise to accommodate non-smokers in an enclosed area.

Many people believe e-cigarettes are more expensive than tobacco cigarettes, but this simply is not the case. While they do often require a modest initial investment, most suppliers offer refilling fluid (e-fluid) at very affordable prices, which actually makes an electronic cigarette far less-expensive (overall) than the ever-increasing cost of tobacco cigarettes. While estimates vary, one 10ml bottle is approximately equivalent to more than a carton of cigarettes.

The American Association of Public Health Physicians has stated that e-cigarettes are 1,000-times less hazardous than tobacco cigarettes. Most of the harmful chemicals produced by traditional cigarettes are the result of combusting (burning) the tobacco. Since e-cigarettes don't use combustion, they produce far fewer unintended chemicals.

The majority of e-cigarette companies use propylene glycol as the base in the e-fluid. Propylene glycol is FDA-approved and has been used in foods for decades. E-cigarettes, on the other hand, are not approved by the FDA due to a disagreement about whose jurisdiction they fall under (the ATF's or the FDA's). Since they contain no tobacco, the ATF insists they don't fall under their jurisdiction, and since they are considered a tobacco-substitute, the FDA refuses to approve them. Despite this, propylene glycol has been shown to offer protection from several respiratory ailments including pneumonia, bronchitis, and even the flu.

Despite the appeal of a safer alternative to smoking, e-cigarettes do still deliver nicotine, a substance that is harmful and addictive. Due to this, they should not be used by minors, and are not effective for those trying to quit smoking.

Potential cost-savings, reduced health-risks, and convenience make e cigarettes an appealing alternative to tobacco cigarettes. With growing concerns about secondhand smoke, e-cigarettes allow you to enjoy a satisfying cigarette almost anywhere.
