Natasha's Body Confidence Talks

"These young people might get all the academic qualifications in the World, but they will never get anywhere in life unless they are happy in their own skin."  Natasha

Research shows that children as young as 10 are experiencing life-consuming dissatisfaction with their bodies. Click here to read the Daily Mail's article. At Winning Minds, we do not believe that it is acceptable for society's attitude towards beauty to rob young people of their childhood and stop them from enjoying their young adulthood.

Natasha uses a combination of Mark Newey's brilliant NLP "Mind Map" (with the emphasis on how the mind takes on false beliefs and insecurities), along with her own experience of having a severe eating disorder and of the working in music and fashion industries to encourage students to liberate themselves from negative body image and feel happy in their own skin.

"Informative, inspirational, entertaining". Alison Lecky, Hertfordshire & Essex High School

"Natasha's session was brilliant, thought provoking and fun." Simon Etheridge, Bishop's Stortford High School

Tasha's mission is twofold:

1. To help young people on a personal level

Natasha runs a confidential helpline the students can call, or they can email her for one-to-one advice on any of the topics discussed.

2. To build a community

There are so many people out there who are rebelling against the prevailing trends for impossible standards of "perfection" and the bizarre yet wildly held belief that you can "never be to thin". As individuals, we can influence our friends and family by setting an example of health and inner happiness which is both coveted and contagious. By uniting in a community of people who refuse to buy into the false beliefs which are poisoning our society and ruining the lives of people everywhere, we can put pressure on the media, fashion and beauty industry and prevent another generation from having to face the same immense and potentially life-consuming pressures.

Natasha's "student page" contains links to causes, petitions and groups the students can join to help change the way society views beauty.

Notes

A recent study conducted amongst 3,879 secondary school students who had been given a lesson by an ex-eating disorder sufferer found that 95% said it had been "very informative", with 17% recognising signs of an eating disorder in others and 9% in themselves. Whilst only 5% would discuss the problem with a teacher, 27% would discuss it with an ex-sufferer.
