Music Matters

Music heals, music motivates, music changes mood, music matters.
This page is a tribute to Faithless, whose music played a huge part in my own healing. Their music consists of Maxi Jazz's penetrating lyrics and Sister Bliss' towering and ethereal keyboards, backed by a thumping dance beat.
If you want a contemporary "religious" experience, then go and see Faithless live: the energy in the crowd is something you have to experience and it appeals to everyone…a 50 year old like me (and I'm often by no means the oldest) and a 13 year old like my youngest daughter…and everyone in between.
These lyrics are totally inspiring and thought-provoking:

Music Matters
For all those who stood up and were counted
For all those for whom money was no motive
For all those for whom music was a message
I want to thank you
For making me
A little more sure
A little more wise
And courageous
You told me to look much further
You told me to walk much more
You told me that music matters
And to chase the dogs back from my door
I won't stop here
I won't be still until the sun sets
On us all..

How can I change the world if I can’t even change myself?
I cannot change the way I am?
I don’t know, I don’t know.
I take a look at the world behind these eyes,
Every nook, every cranny reorganize,
Realize my face don’t fit the way I feel.
What’s real?
I need a mirror to check my face is in place,
In case of upheaval, fundamental movement below,
What’s really going on I want to know,
But yo, we don’t show on the outside, so slide.
Just below my skin I’m screaming…
I need a mirror for my spirit.
Yeah, can you feel it?
When I get deep, want to hear myself sleep,
Not drowning, tumbling around and around in the voices
Like a crowd in my head so loud,
I wonder what its like to be dead,
I hope its quiet, noise in my head like a riot,
Any remedy you have for me I’ll try it.
Just below my skin I’m screaming…
I’m going deep, so deep that I can’t sleep,
The pills ain’t cheep but the bills are steep,
So I lick a fifth of booze and a spliff,
Try to snooze,
But who’s dreaming, this is win or lose,
Put down the drink try not to think,
Let it go, fundamental movement below,
And yo, reality is dreaming,
Just below my skin I’m screaming…

We Come 1
All the subtle flavors of my life
are become bitter seeds
and poisoned leaves
without you
You represent what's true
I drain the colour from the sky
And turn blue
without you
These arms lack a purpose
Flapping like a humming-bird
I'm nervous 'cause
I'm the left eye
you're the right
Would it not be madness to fight
We come 1
In you the song which rights my wrongs
In you the fullness of living
The power to begin again
From right now, in you
We come 1
I'm unafraid
never never scared
Worries washed
pressed air
I am the left eye
you're the right
Would it not be madness to fight
We come 1

Reverence (Part)
Ya can't hide responsibility
So decide from today just who it's going to be,
Thou shalt have no other God but me,
So set ya free see,
But you'll have to listen,
And who's that false idol I see you kissing?
Money, success and untold wealth, good health
And all ya have to do is love yourself.
It's a fact you'll attract all the things that ya lack,
So just chill
And get off the race track
And take a pace back, face facts,
It's your decision,
You don't need eyes to see,
You need Vision.

I Want More
Hey friend your misery bewilders me
How come you're never satisfied or gratified
Four walls n' a roof, electricity
Stable mind, wife and child
Hot and cold water to run anytime
But still you, whine
I want more
A bum could rummage through ya bin
And live like a king
On just one crumb of ya cake
Ya say ya life needs fulfillin’
Some would give anything to live like you
Shame your mind don't shine
Like your possessions do
Whining, complaining all the time
Don't see no rain on you
What side your bread is buttered on
If only you knew
What d'ya mean
I want more
I was told as a child
I want more never gets
Learned to count my blessings
Long before I saw an abacus
So what ya family don't speak
At least they're alive
Show me a man without guilt
Or a soul that ain't lied
You don't know what ya got
Open your eyes, look around
Really, hear me you
Ain't got no reason to be down
What d'ya mean
I want more
Friend what is it that you seek
What is it that you try to find
Someday I hope you realize
It shines in you all the time
Hills to climb, sights to see, seas to cross
Friends to make, hands to shake, the world is yours
Foods to taste, sounds to hear, love to feel
Seeds to sew, things to know, fish to reel
Space to quiz, stones to lift, life's a gift
What d'ya mean
I want more

Bombs
So much more than I thought this world could ever hold
So much more than I thought this world could ever hold
We think we're heroes, we think we're kings
We plan all kinds of fabulous things
Oh look how great we have become
Key in the door, the moment I've been longing for
Before my bag hit the floor
My adorable children rush up screaming for a kiss,
and a story, they're a gift to this world
My only claim to glory
I surely never knew sweeter days
Blows my mind like munitions
I'm amazed
So much heaven, so much hell
So much love, so much pain
So much more than I thought this world could ever contain
So much war, so much soul
One man's loss, another man's goal
So much more than I thought this world can ever hold
We're just children, we're just dust
We are small and we are lost
And we're nothing, nothing at all
One bomb, the whole block gone
Can't find me children and dust covers the sun
Everywhere is noise, panic and confusion
But to some, another fun day in Babylon
I'm gonna bury my wife and dig up my gun
My life is done so now I got to kill someone
So much heaven, so much hell
So much love, so much pain
So much more than I thought this world could ever contain
So much war, so much soul
One man's loss, another man's goal
So much more than I thought this world could ever hold
